A FASTER PC BOOT BEGINS FROM TWEAKING ITS BIOS

The Bios is the main kernel of the computer system, and all of us should know how it works. The Bios, besides telling us what our computer has inside, it can help our pc  boot faster. If we enter the Bios in the advanced Bios features, there is the boot priority that should have the following order:

-1) Hard disk

-2) Cd Rom

- 3) Quick power on self test: make sure it’s enabled

- 4 ) Boot up Floppy seek: disable it.

Once done in the Bios ,choose Save and Exit. Reboot your computer and you will acquire a significant speed during the booting time, that can be estimated in around 3 seconds.

WHEN YOU NEED TO RUN APPLICATIONS FROM A FLASH DRIVE

There are many reasons why you may use applications on a flash drive: for fun,  or because your pc is crashing or because you want to work on somebody else’s computer.

There are a huge number of portable programs available, many of them free. There are portable browsers, graphic editors, media players, and programming tools such as utilities. I keep a flash drive with assorted portable diagnostic tools that come in handy when someone asks me to help them out with their computer. I have chosen portableapps.com that has Firefox as a default browser and Clamwin as antivirus.

A FREE GOOD ANTIVIRUS

If you want a clean anti-virus software that does just one thing–protect against viruses–you’ll want Clamwin. It has a small footprint, and doesn’t take up much system resources. It will scan your entire hard disk at once for viruses and spyware, or can scan individual files and folders. Download it here.

ADVANCED FIREWALL SECURITY TO BE EXPLOITED IN VISTA

After having turned on the personal firewall in our computer, it’s good to know that there are further measures to take to secure our inbound and outbound traffic and to avoid unauthorized connections to our machines.

If you run Vista type in the search box of the start menu “Windows Firewall”. A new dialog box appears with advanced security settings. Click on the green arrow “Windows firewall properties” and block the inbound and outbound connections on the domain profile and the private profile. In all these two, select” Block”.
